(PLANET EARTH) - For the 20th straight year since the creation of the World Wide Web, a stupid thing is once again the most popular thing on the internet, making today the 7,304^th consecutive day that an idiotic thing is the most popular thing on the most advanced system of human communication ever devised.

The stupid thing, which is so inane that it insults the intelligence of the entire species, probably involves animals, babies, bodily injury, a severe lack of talent or all of the above.

The stupid thing has already inspired several imitators, who, although slightly more clever, only serve to contribute to the overall popularity of the original stupid thing they were wishing to satirize thus rendering whatever intelligence gained obsolete.

The stupid thing, presently known about by 15 million people, or 1 in 400 people worldwide (and counting), easily outperformed far smarter and even ingenious things, which are understood by only a fraction of the people who have become aware of the immensely popular stupid thing.

Smart people who have never heard of the popular stupid thing are considered somewhat stupid for having not heard of the very popular stupid thing.  

You might wish to ignore the stupid thing, but chances are the stupid thing has already escaped the Internet into print or television and radio or small talk, solidifying the stupid thing’s strangle hold on the collective consciousness of the entire human species.
